Human problem

What this is for

Meaning loss, loneliness, digital comparison, and spiritual self-measurement after a strong inner experience.

Modern human condition sources

For

Who may need it

Stable solo practitioners, online spiritual readers, AI-dialogue users, app meditators, and retreat returners who want to name, post, or diagnose a meaningful shift.

Not for

When this may not fit

Not for acute crisis, suicidal thoughts, psychosis, mania, severe depression, dissociation, addiction withdrawal, active abuse, unsafe authority, fresh traumatic grief, OCD or scrupulosity without appropriate care, or anyone needing clinical, legal, recovery, safeguarding, or pastoral help. People already under competent guidance should follow that guidance first.

Steps

  1. Write one sentence describing what changed without calling it awakening, failure, healing, calling, or proof.
  2. Ask what ordinary duty, repair, rest, boundary, or care this returns you to in the next 24 hours.
  3. Name one person, text, rule, clinical boundary, conduct result, or time test that could correct your interpretation.
  4. Do the smallest return act before posting, teaching, changing identity labels, or making a major decision.
  5. After 24 hours, note whether the act made you more honest, more connected, more grounded, or more willing to receive correction.

Notice

What to watch

  • The urge to claim status or specialness.
  • The urge to doubt the whole experience because it cannot be named yet.
  • Whether the body settles after the return act or becomes more tense and watchful.
  • Whether the practice increases repair, contact, rest, or ordinary responsibility.
  • Whether correction feels possible without panic or obedience pressure.

Caution

When to stop

Stop if the check increases shame, compulsive analysis, fear, isolation, unsafe obedience, or refusal of needed help. Do not use it to override medical, clinical, legal, safeguarding, or recovery advice.

Weakens if

What would count against it

After three uses, it produces no increase in return acts or appropriate help-seeking, increases rumination or isolation, or performs no better than rest, ordinary journaling, one trusted conversation, or existing teacher guidance.

Source Basis

  • Mode: Critique. The active Recognition Gap frontier was narrowed rather than promoted.
  • Primary text comparison: SN 22.59 Anattalakkhana Sutta, Access to Insight, https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/sn/sn22/sn22.059.than.html, read against Rumi's Masnavi Book 1 source card. The Buddhist source tests ownership and control; the Sufi source tests self-emptying by love and surrendered return. Both interrupt self-possession, but they authorize different returns.
  • Practitioner-method lens: early Buddhist not-self inquiry was used to ask what the shift reduces in ownership; Sufi sobriety and Ignatian discernment were used as counter-lenses that ask whether love, service, and guidance improve.
