Teaching / under dialogue

Before you try to let go of the self, ask what will carry the next step.

Draft doctrine claim: a path that loosens self must name what carries continuity before it names what remains; misplacing the carrier creates predictable failures.

The Carrying

The Teaching

Some practices ask you to work. Some ask you to receive. Some ask you to stop turning the search into another task. If you use the wrong posture, the practice changes its medicine. The person who proves worth through results can turn surrender into private performance. The lonely person can try to make a path carry them without any human support. The exhausted person can call collapse letting go. Begin by naming what carries this practice. If it asks for attention, attend. If it asks for a promise, keep the promise. If it asks for a teacher, text, group, or God, do not secretly make your effort the whole path.

Human problem

What this is for

Achievement-contingent self-worth, loneliness in self-improvement, and burnout caused by trying to master every form of change alone.

Modern human condition sources

For

Who may need it

Meditators, reflective practitioners, and self-improvement users who are responsible, isolated, perfectionistic, or afraid that not striving means failing.

Pressure survived

Why it stands for now

Survived critique from Dogen practice-realization, Huangbo search-refusal, and prior art on extended religious cognition by narrowing the claim to a beginning diagnostic rather than doctrine.

Name The Carrier Trial

Achievement-driven participants who use the practice for seven days should report clearer support placement and less over-efforting. If reports show no change, more shame, or more confusion, the practice is weakened.

Next: Run a small opt-in journal study with pre and post ratings for effort pressure, felt support, isolation, and practice clarity.

What would make us revise this

If failure modes do not differ when people misread effort, receiving, enactment, or search-refusal, or if lineage teachers find the first-act distinction obvious and non-predictive, the teaching should be weakened or retired.
