The Teaching

You can read a hundred descriptions of letting go and still not know what will catch you when you do. That is not a gap in the books. The books were never where the answer lived. A good guide watches the particular person first: the one who grasps is given one footing, the one who fears is given another, the one who doubts is given a third, even when the aim is the same. So before you take up a practice that loosens who you are, do not ask the text what remains. Ask what has actually held you before, and find someone who can see your particular weight. Let go only as fast as something real can carry you.
