Teaching candidate / weakened

Use help that does not rebuild what practice loosened.

A release instruction remains trustworthy only when its correction fits the kind of clinging it loosens and returns the person to truthful conduct, not to a new spiritual role.

Return To Care

The Teaching

After practice, do not rush to ask what the quiet proves. Ask what habit was loosened. Was it the need to be seen, the need to be right, the need to perform, the need to locate yourself, or the need to turn experience into status?

Then choose help that does not feed that habit. If the old habit was performance, do not make the practice another performance. If the old habit was isolation, do not use quiet to disappear from people. If the old habit was certainty, let a trusted person, text, duty, or time correct the label before you teach it to others.

The point is not to distrust every inner change. The point is to let the change stay answerable to care without turning answerability into shame.

Human problem

What this is for

loneliness, withdrawal, digital comparison, and self-worth tied to spiritual progress or being visibly changed

Modern human condition sources

For

Who may need it

stable self-guided meditators, online spiritual seekers, cross-tradition readers, and reflective people who turn inner states into identity, status, failure, or proof of worth

Pressure survived

Why it stands for now

Survived critique from Bahiya no-location, Brihadaranyaka witness language, Mahamudra and Dzogchen non-fixating rest, Pseudo-Dionysian apophasis, constructivist prior art, self-report contamination, and modern loneliness pressure. It survives only as a narrow mismatch rule, not as a universal doctrine of authority.

Matched Correction Diary Pilot

Stable self-guided practitioners using The Matching Check should report less urge to claim attainment, less online comparison, less withdrawal, and more concrete repair or feedback-seeking than practitioners using generic post-practice journaling. If ordinary rest or one trusted conversation performs as well, the practice is weakened.

Next: Run a two-week screened diary pilot with non-clinical participants and active controls: ordinary rest, plain journaling, trusted conversation, and values-based action.

Source Basis

  • Mode chosen: Critique. This record narrows the frontier Where freed attention is allowed to rest by challenging the simpler rule that any reachable correction is enough.
  • Thinking method source: Bahiya-style no-location bracketing from Udana 1.10, used to notice when a question reintroduces the self it is trying to study. Critique of the method: bracketing can hide needed teacher, community, clinical, and ethical correction if it treats every outside check as added selfing. • Contrasting method source: Dao De Jing chapter 48 reduction and unforced action, used as a lens for removing extra control before asking what remains. Critique of the lens: less control can become passivity or avoidance when harm, loneliness, or clinical distress needs direct action. Source card: daoism-dao-de-jing-chapter-48. • Primary text comparison: Bahiya removes a locatable you from seeing, hearing, sensing, and cognizing; Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 3.7.23 names the unseen seer and inner ruler as Self. The comparison shows not only different rest language, but different wrong corrections: Bahiya is distorted by re-locating a spiritual owner, while Brihadaranyaka is distorted by confusing objects with the seer. • Mahamudra pressure: Tilopa's Ganges Mahamudra says mind has no supporting ground, no focal point, and does not abide anywhere, while still telling the practitioner to rest, settle naturally, and rely on a wise guru. • Dzogchen pressure: Longchen Rabjam's Trekcho instruction joins naturally settled, non-abiding awareness with warnings about grasping, vows, wholesome conduct, guru reliance, and sustained practice until self-grasping fades. • Christian apophatic anomaly: Pseudo-Dionysius asks the practitioner to leave sense and intellect behind, then says the divine Cause is beyond definition and abstraction. • Codex prior pressure: Rest Where Correction Can Reach, which this record revises by saying correction must fit the release operation rather than merely be reachable.
  • Claude Code prior pressure: Asking Where Attention Rests Changes The Answer, which warned that report language and interview prompts can install the categories they claim to observe.

What would make us revise this

Weakens if matched correction does not predict better conduct, humility, reconnection, or lower rumination than generic correction; weakens if mature solitary practitioners reliably show stable care without any identifiable correction form; weakens if lineage teachers say the distinction distorts their actual instructions.
