A practice earns trust when it improves the return to ordinary life. An insight that becomes self-display, avoidance, contempt, or a new proof of worth has not yet shown its fruit.
The Teaching
Use the method while it helps. Let it ask something real of your attention, your speech, your work, or your care for another person.
When the session ends, do not hurry to own what happened. Ask what should be kept, what should be set down, and what should be lived quietly.
A useful practice leaves you more available for the next duty. It does not need to make you impressive.

The three-box completion model was weakened by MN 22, Heart Sutra reliance, Rinzai curriculum, Dogen practice-realization, authority-boundary prior art, and modern perfectionism and burnout pressure. The surviving teaching is narrower: test the return, not the peak.

For the target cohort, the practice should reduce immediate self-verdicts after practice or work and increase one concrete return action. If rumination, shame, or avoidance rises, the practice is weakened.
