Steps

  1. Write the question in plain words, for example: what am I really, or what is left when the usual self loosens.
  2. Ask: is the pressure mostly fear and unsteadiness, or mostly an honest open question that will not close yet?
  3. For the fear, name one concrete way to be steadied today: a trusted person, a teacher, rest, food, a routine, or ordinary work.
  4. For the question, ask whether your practice authorizes this question as real work. If it does, decide to let it stay open rather than forcing an answer or treating its sharpness as failure.
  5. Do the one steadying action, then stop. Do not try to resolve the question in the same sitting.
