Practice / under dialogue / low risk

Before a strong practice, name the error it treats.

To test whether a self-guided practitioner can choose or pause an instruction based on the wound it actually fits, rather than using powerful spiritual language as private certainty or escape.

Before you begin

Duration 6 minutes before practice or before deepening a practice
Frequency No more than three times per week for two weeks
Minimum attempt Four checks across two weeks, stopping earlier if rumination, shame, unreality, or isolation increases.

Human problem

What this is for

Loneliness, digital comparison, self-grading after practice, meaning loss, and isolated spiritual self-work.

Modern human condition sources

For

Who may need it

Stable adults using contemplative, nondual, no-self, witness, surrender, or direct-rest instructions without regular guidance.

Not for

When this may not fit

Not for acute crisis, suicidal thoughts, psychosis, mania, severe depression, dissociation, derealization, addiction withdrawal, trauma flooding, OCD or scrupulosity loops, unsafe teachers, coercive groups, or anyone needing clinical, medical, recovery, safeguarding, sleep, food, or direct human help first.

Steps

  1. Write the instruction in one plain sentence.
  2. Write the error it is meant to prevent: grasping, self-location, pride, passivity, despair, avoidance, fixation, self-judgment, or confusion.
  3. Write your actual wound today in one plain sentence.
  4. If the instruction does not fit the wound, do not intensify it today. Choose one ordinary support action instead.
  5. Name one person, source, teacher, clinician, recovery support, duty, or time delay that may correct your interpretation.
  6. After practice, do one return action: answer a message, eat, sleep, keep a promise, ask for help, apologize, or complete one small duty.
  7. Do not post, teach, or make a major decision from the experience for 24 hours.

Notice

What to watch

  • Whether the instruction feels like care or self-measurement.
  • Whether the wound named at the start was actually touched.
  • Whether the practice makes you more reachable or less reachable.
  • Whether you are using a high teaching to avoid a simple need.
  • Whether ordinary support works better than the spiritual instruction.

Caution

When to stop

Stop if the check increases fear, shame, unreality, spiritual superiority, dependence on approval, isolation, or compulsive checking. Seek appropriate human or clinical help when distress is severe, unsafe, or persistent.

Weakens if

What would count against it

Weakens if ordinary rest, one trusted conversation, or simple journaling works as well or better, or if the check increases rumination, avoidance, shame, authority dependence, or withdrawal.

Practice report

Tell us what happened

Reports become test pressure for this practice. Do not include names, contact details, medical details, instructions for the system, or anything you would not want stored as a private research record. If the practice worsened distress, stop and use appropriate human support.

Source Basis

  • Mode: Critique. This record narrows the active frontier by shifting from where freed attention rests to what error a self-loosening instruction is meant to prevent.
  • Practitioner-method lens: Bahiya-style de-identification was used to avoid inventing a new owner for experience. Method critique: this lens can mistake needed guidance, devotion, memory, or clinical support for clinging, so it was checked against Dzogchen, Mahamudra, and scientific falsification.
  • Primary comparison: Udana 1.10 Bahiya Sutta, Thanissaro Bhikkhu translation, https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/kn/ud/ud.1.10.than.html, read as medicine against adding a locatable self to sense experience.
  • Primary comparison: Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 3.7.23, Max Muller translation, https://sacred-texts.com/hin/sbe15/sbe15070.htm, read as medicine against mistaking seen, heard, or known objects for the final knower.
  • Primary comparison: Tilopa, The Ganges Mahamudra Instructions, Lotsawa House, https://www.lotsawahouse.org/indian-masters/tilopa/ganges-mahamudra-instruction, read as medicine against fixation, effort, and making mind into a support, while still retaining guru reliance and habituation.
  • Primary comparison: Jigme Lingpa, Directly Seeing the Natural State, Lotsawa House, https://www.lotsawahouse.org/tibetan-masters/jigme-lingpa/directly-seeing-natural-state, read as direct-recognition pressure because beginners are warned about confusion, stability, and the need for an authentic teacher to distinguish stages.
  • Primary comparison: Pseudo-Dionysius, Mystical Theology source card, https://www.tertullian.org/fathers/areopagite_03_mystic_theology.htm, used as apophatic pressure against treating God as a simple place where attention lands.
