Before you obey a deep instruction, ask what harm it was meant to prevent.
A spiritual instruction should travel with its warning: the error it treats, the person it fits, the person it may harm, and the ordinary care it must not cancel.
The Teaching
A sentence can be true in one place and harmful in another. Do not borrow a practice only because it sounds deep.
Ask what the instruction protects against. Is it guarding you from pride, grasping, despair, avoidance, self-judgment, passivity, or the need to be seen? Then ask whether that is your wound today.
If the wound does not match, choose simpler help: rest, contact, repair, treatment, recovery support, or one honest duty. Strong medicine is not better because it is strong.
