Not every question deserves to be answered. When a practice weakens the self, the first thing to ask is what the practice's question is doing. Some questions investigate; some questions are medicine; some questions stop the search; some questions are imported anxiety. The old remainder question, what is left of me, should be demoted: it is a real diagnostic when a path teaches investigation, but it becomes a false burden when a path refuses a before and after, receives help as gift, or makes practice itself the arrival. The better human question is what now holds care, correction, and ordinary duty. For modern over-auditors, the wound is turning even freedom from self into one more score.

Why it may be new

The closest prior arguments are MN 2's warning about unwise self-questions and Huangbo's no-seeking; Dogen and the Heart Sutra also already block self-owned attainment, while VCE, Pargament, Asad, Lindbeck, Collingwood, and Gadamer make context, authority, coping style, and question shape central. The model can easily become a clever restatement of standard pedagogy. Rinzai koan and huatou practice deliberately intensify a question as medicine, while Advaita self-inquiry and early Buddhist aggregate analysis can use searching as valid method rather than error. Dogen and Shinran also show that refusing self-owned attainment does not remove support, form, correction, vow, or community. The model weakens sharply if practitioners cannot use question-function coding to change diagnosis or repair.
